It's been more than a month since my last announcement, and I thought that rather than wait until everyone had given up hope, I would send a brief announcement to let everyone know how things are going. The short summary: Things are going real well. I didn't get anything done for a while after I got back from YAPC (partly inertia, and partly because I was getting Memoize.pm into Perl 5.7.1,) but I've been in a nice writing groove for the last week and a half or so. I started working on Chapter 5.5, which is about conversion of recursive functions to iterators, and realized I couldn't really go ahead until I had written chapter 4, which is about iterators. I now have about 6500 words written; when finished, the chapter will probably be on the order of 20,000 words. Unfortunately, I have to go away to TPC in a week. My grateful thanks to folks who sent me advice and corrections on Chapter 3. I have a rather odd sample this time; it's something I think will *not* be in the book. I was writing about iterators to generate permutations, and I got about 1600 words into it and decided that it was too mathy, so I tore the whole thing out and wrote it over. But you may be interested in the part that was torn out, although it's ragged around the edges. It's at [ Sorry, freebies are available only to mailing list subscribers.
